How a balcony power station works
1. the PV module: sunlight becomes electricity!
A photovoltaic system converts sunlight into electrical energy. This process takes place in individual solar modules. The sunlight stimulates electrons in the solar cells to move. This produces direct electric current.
2. the inverter: direct current becomes alternating current!
An inverter converts the direct current into alternating current so that the electricity can be used in the household. Only high-quality Hoymiles inverters are used in our balcony power plants.
3. the consumers: the electricity is utilised!
The inverter is connected to any socket in the household grid. The electricity is now in the household grid and is used by all appliances. Surplus electricity is fed into the public grid.
The three steps after the purchase
1. structure: Installation is child's play. Simply plug the modules into the inverter and plug the inverter into any socket using the cable supplied.
2. registration: Registration takes place via the "Registration assistants for operators of power generation plants" of the Federal Network Agency.
3. registration: It is currently necessary to register the balcony power station with the grid operator. This step will be cancelled in the coming weeks (see Solar Package 1 of the Federal Government).
How much money you save
As standard balcony power stations do not have a storage unit, the savings depend heavily on the base load. In a 100 square metre flat, this is around 400W. This includes, for example, the refrigerator, standby devices, wifi router, heating and hot water preparation, smart home devices, etc.
With a 600W balcony power station, it can be assumed that it produces an average of 2.4 kWh of electricity per day. As balcony power stations feed directly into the domestic grid and therefore surplus energy flows into the public grid, around 50 % of the electricity is actually used. This saves over 400 kWh per year.
At an electricity price of €0.35/kWh, this amounts to an annual saving of around €150. If you use appliances sensibly (e.g. switch on the washing machine and dishwasher during the day and not at night), the self-generated electricity can be used much more efficiently.
Mounting solutions and alignment
Assembly solutions:
We offer installation kits for mounting on the façade, on pitched roofs and flat roofs, as well as in gardens and, of course, on balcony railings. If you want to mount your balcony power station in another way, please contact us and we will find a suitable solution. All mounting sets are permanently in stock!
Alignment:
Ideally facing south, with an inclination of approx. 30° for flat mounting and approx. 70° for balcony mounting. As the sun is not so high in winter, the inclination can be increased slightly. In general, make sure that the PV modules are shaded as little as possible.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What components does a balcony power station consist of?
1. solar modules: Convert sunlight into electrical energy.
2. micro inverters: Convert direct current (DC) generated into alternating current (AC) for feeding into the grid.
3. mounting material/mounting system: Secure solar modules to the balcony or selected surface.
4. cable to the socket: Conducts the generated electricity to the socket or the power grid.
These components generate and transmit solar energy from the balcony power station to the grid or for personal use.
What is a balcony power station?
A balcony power station, also known as a plug-in solar device or mini-photovoltaic system, uses a photovoltaic module to convert solar energy into electricity.
It is used to efficiently convert solar energy into usable electricity. The size is limited to a maximum of two modules and the feed-in to the electricity grid must not exceed 600 watts (800 watts from 1 January 2024).
These systems are usually connected directly to the house or flat circuit by plugging them into a socket. This allows users to utilise solar energy generated on site to cover their energy needs.
